She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Mclntosh, the daughter of Marie Cora (Rosenquist) Rude and Benjamin Hansen. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1940. In high school she played clarinet and was class president her senior year.
After graduation she attended Moorhead State University where she played in the band and was a member of Pi Mu Phi, graduating in 1942 with a teaching certificate. She began teaching first grade in 1942 and taught until 1951 in Beardsley and Moorhead.
In 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Rude, at the English Lutheran church in Crookston. She continued teaching in Georgetown, Clitherall and Battle Lake. Anitra took some time off from teaching to raise her two children. She eventually went back to Moorhead State University and graduated with a four-year teaching degree.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and then returned to teaching in 1963. She was voted Teacher of the Year in 1980 and retired from education in 1981. They moved to Fergus Falls from Battle Lake in 1968, and spent their winters in Sun City, Ariz., after retiring.
Anitra was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and the American Lutheran Church of Sun City. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, dancing, music, being involved in church work and singing in the church choir. She especially delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. She was generous and compassionate, and had a special zest and love for life. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother; and sister, Aaronetta Thurmond.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, James L. Rude, of Fergus Falls; son, Craig (Susan) Rude of Fergus Falls, and their children Samuel, John, Joseph and Eva; daughter, Susan (Joel) Reimers of Chanhassen, and their children Katelyn, Charles, and Molly; two sisters, Janet Conkins, of Chandler, Ariz., and Lucy (Ed) Weiland, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
