Ernest E. Lowerre of Bloomingburg, a retired supervisor for NY Telephone, died Monday, December 29, 2008 at the ORMC-Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 74.

The son of the late Ernest C. Lowerre and Florence Barber Lowerre, he was born January 28, 1934 in Middletown.

A veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea, Ernie was a former longtime resident of Rock Hill where he was a member of the Rock Hill Fire Dept., the Monticello Elk's Lodge #1544 and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He also attended both St. Peter's Church in Monticello and Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg.

He is survived by his wife, Lois C. Horton Lowerre, at home; a son, Ernest J. Lowerre & his wife, Julie of Buffalo; a daughter, Joanne Lowerre of St. Cloud, FL; two grandchildren, Zachary & Maxwell; two stepsons, Raymond Frey of Bloomingburg and George Frey & his wife, Donna of Arvada, CO.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. The Rock Hill Fire Dept will conduct firematic services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday evening.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
