Harry William Ashworth, 84, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at The Oaks of Brevard.
A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Oliva Hancock Ashworth. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, David Ashworth and Chan Ashworth; sister Eleanor Ashworth; first wife Charlene Wilson Ashworth. Harry was an active member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, serving as Chairman of the Trustees for a number of years and was Chairman of the Building Committee for the multi-purpose building.
Harry was very blessed to have two wonderful women in his life. Charlene was by his side as a loving wife and mother of his children until her death in 1986. In 1989, Harry married Lula Sherrill, who has been faithfully by his side as a loving wife until his death.
He was a respected business owner operating Ashworth Construction, Surveying & Grading, A & A Equipment Rental, and built many of the buildings around Brevard, especially at Brevard College. He was a veteran of the U S Army Air Corp. serving during WW 11.
Surviving are his wife, Lula Sherrill Ashworth; sons, Lyndon K. Ashworth and wife Gayle of Easley, SC, Kenneth B. Ashworth and wife Ginger of Gastonia, NC, Rev. John D. Ashworth and wife Leah of Brevard, NC, Larry C. Sherrill of Brevard; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at St. Timothy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randolph Harry officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie - Evergreen Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 PM Wednesday at the church.
Harry's favorite saying was "I have everything I need right here in Transylvania County", and he meant it.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Timothy United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Bos 429, Brevard, North Carolina 28712.
