Elijah Wilson Flake was a member of the 14th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Company C. He was transferred to the Confederate States Steamer, Merrimac, in preparation in the Navy yard at Portsmouth, Virginia, early in 1862. Later he enlisted in 26th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Company K and was with that unit when Lee surrendered at Appomattox.
Elijah W. Flake was a member of the crew of the Merrimac. He wrote an account of his service. It can be read at the address below.
