MRS. J. W. BARSON,
PIONEER COUNTY RESIDENT, DIES

Mrs. Frances S. Barson, 86 years old, widow of Dr. John William Barson and a member of a pioneer Jasper County family, died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, 202 Sergeant Avenue. She had been ill the last four years.
Born September 22, 1864 at Richwood, Missouri, she was daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Henry Board, pioneer settlers of Jasper county. She moved with her family to the county when she was 5 years old. The family settled at Oronogo.
Mrs. Barson attended schools at Oronogo and later taught singing there for several years. She and Dr. Barson were married April 9, 1884 at Oronogo. In 1919, they moved to Joplin and established their residence at 202 Sergeant Avenue, where Dr. Barson also maintained his offices. Dr. Barson, who died in 1939, practiced medicine in Jasper county for more than 40 years.
While residing at Oronogo, Mrs. Barson was active in school and charitable work and in church activities. She maintained membership in the Oronogo Methodist church after moving to Joplin. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arthur S. Growdon of the home and Mrs. Samuel Harrison Snider of Kansas City; a brother, T. J. Board of Oronogo; three grandchildren, Dr. John Arthur Growdon and Mrs. Norman Lee Wilkinson, Jr., of Kansas City, and Dr. James Harold Growdon of Little Rock, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements, tentatively set for Thursday, will be under the direction of the Hurlbut-Glover mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

WILL BE HELD THURSDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Frances S. Barson, 86 year old, widow of Dr. John William Barson, who died Monday afternoon at her home, 202 Sergeant Avenue, will be conducted at 10 o’clock Thursday morning in the chapel of the Hurlbut-Glover Mortuary. The Rev. Murray Jones, pastor of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel from 3 o’clock this afternoon until 8 o’clock tonight. Pallbearers will be Dale Smith, Chester Smith, Don Board, Richard Board, Orion Board and Norman Wilkinson, Jr.
