John M. Cook, 74, of Walnut Creek died April 6 at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
He was born in South Dakota and grew up in North Dakota. In 1937, he graduated from North Dakota State University, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. From 1942 to 1946, he was stationed at Fiji while serving in the Army during World War II. A Walnut Creek resident for 31 years, he was a mechanical engineer for Otis Elevator Company for 44 years.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ruth M. Cook of Walnut Creek; son, James Cook of Bellingham, Wash.; daughters, Barbara Martin of Lynden, Wash., and Sandra Cook of Walnut Creek; sister, Glenna Hammond of Minneapolis, Minn.; and four grandchildren.
The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association, 105 Astrid Drive, Pleasant Hill 94523.
