Deeroo Barnhart, 84, son of Mark James and Flora Livonna Dixon Barnhart, was born Dec. 16, 1917, at Edensville. He died Nov. 23, 2002, at his home at Plato.
The Barnharts moved to Plato, where he attended school and met his future wife. During the '30s, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked as a surveyor. One of the projects he worked on in Missouri was the Bull Shoals, Ark., lake. He also worked on lakes in Minnesota.
He married Emily Amy Pearcy Jan. 11, 1941. They had two children.
Mr. Barnhart professed his faith in Christ at an early age.
Mr. Barnhart served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1946 with the rank of Tec-5. He was awarded the Army of Occupation/Germany medal with one Overseas Service Bar.
He returned home, and he and his family moved to the Waynesville area for a number of years. The family moved to Houston, later moving to Plato to be near his parents and job.
Mr. Barnhart was a charter member of Plato American Legion Post and was instrumental in organizing the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery board, serving as a member until his health failed.
He worked at Fort Leonard Wood as a heavy equipment inspector until he retired. During his service, he received awards for excellence of performance.
The Barnharts attended many family gatherings with his wife's six sisters and one brother. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil and Charley Barnhart; and one sister, Ruby Carr.
Surviving are his wife of the home; two children, Mary Jane Weber of Plato and Bobby Dee Barnhart of Houston; one sister, Mabel Dowden of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
Services were Nov. 27 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
