Born in Parkton, MD, Alfred came to DC with his family in 1892, He met Gertrude Pidcock either in the neighborhood off North Capitol Street or in High School. They were married in 1905. He was a farmer, in Arlington, raising Chickens as well as having a large Garden. He was employed by the U. S. Post Office Department working from the Georgetown Branch in Washington DC. Alfred and Gertrude settled in Alexandria County (later renamed Arlington) where they raised three girls and a boy. Alfred's career in the post office was shortened by the occurrence of multiple sclerosis in the 20's and 30's. He spent is final years at the Washington Home for Incurables, now the Washington Hospice.
