MORGANTON - Ella Stilwell "Mom" Digh, 94, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Born June 15, 1916 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of Elich Stilwell and Lucy Perillo Stilwell. Mom operated Marshall's Snack Bar in Morganton in the early 60s. That led to the starting of the chain of over 200 restaurants of Mom and Pop's Ham House, Western Steer Family Steakhouse, Mom and Pop's Bakery, and Mom and Pop's Ham Curing Plant.
Mom was a member of Westport Baptist Church. She loved cooking and gardening. She was a spunky, witty, outgoing person who loved life and everyone she met. Everyone who knew Mom loved her. She resided at the Pines of Davidson.
Mom is survived by sons, Marshall Digh and wife, Frances, of Denver and Ronnie Digh and wife, Becky of Gastonia; grandchildren, Andrew Digh of Macon, Ga., Allison Bumgardner and husband, Kyle of Charlotte, Marsha Digh and husband, David of Bethlehem, Gemma Digh of Claremont, and Robert Digh and wife, Hope of Denver; and great-grandchildren, Ella Bumgardner, Kate Bumgardner, Aaron Digh, Anna Digh, Hunter Gabriel and Robin Bentley.
In addition to her parents, Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Solen "Pop" Digh.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Westport Baptist Church in Denver with the Rev. Mike Young officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westport Baptist Church "He Is Worthy" Building Fund, 2372 Lakeshore Road South, Denver, NC 28037.
