Survivors are: an adopted daughter, Cindy Criss and her family. Also surviving Rich are several nieces, nephews, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Rich was one of six children born March 17, 1915, to Theodore and Mary (Glaser) Pfeifer on the original Pfeifer family farm three miles north of Spalding.
He attended Greeley County School District 47 until the eighth grade. He then worked at various jobs in Illinois before returning to Spalding, where he worked on the family farm with his brother Carl.
Rich enjoyed doing gardening, carpentry work, visiting friends and playing cards.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, and joined the Knights of Columbus in Greeley in 1950.
He especially enjoyed his St. Patrick's birthday and his small Irish heritage.
Rich was married to Nellie Bassett and they had one adopted daughter, Cindy.
Following Carl's death in 1988, Richard continued to work on the farm until retiring in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Margaret "Peg" Foltz, Anna Gilroy, Carl, Louie and Alfred Pfeifer.
