Samuel died at his home in Minneapolis, Tuesday September 2, 1929 at the age of 71. On May 29, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hart at Freeport, Illinois, and to this union five children were born, one of whom preceded him in death.

In 1880, he moved to Ottawa County, Ks., settling on a farm northeast of Minneapolis where he resided until he moved to town about 20 years ago, and has resided here ever since.

As a young man, he was converted into membership of the Episcopal Church, in which he remained until death.

Mr. Merryfield was a man who was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of making his acquaintance. Patiently and faithfully, he performed the duties attendant upon him as a husband and father, bearing burdens, making sacrifices, yet always submissive and willing, and all the while proving a constant supporter of his family and his loved partner.

Surviving him are children: Cecil, Lucius, Chester, and Mrs. Clemma Wright; three brothers and six grandchildren and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Linus B. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was made in Highland Cemetery.
