In 1880, he moved to Ottawa County, Ks., settling on a farm northeast of Minneapolis where he resided until he moved to town about 20 years ago, and has resided here ever since.
As a young man, he was converted into membership of the Episcopal Church, in which he remained until death.
Mr. Merryfield was a man who was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of making his acquaintance. Patiently and faithfully, he performed the duties attendant upon him as a husband and father, bearing burdens, making sacrifices, yet always submissive and willing, and all the while proving a constant supporter of his family and his loved partner.
Surviving him are children: Cecil, Lucius, Chester, and Mrs. Clemma Wright; three brothers and six grandchildren and a large circle of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Linus B. Smith Funeral Home. Burial was made in Highland Cemetery.
