Karl Standish first married Mary Elizabeth Bullock in 1910. They had one son, Myles Standish, born in 1920. During this first marriage he worked as a printer for a newspaper and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

He married Vera Lue Harrison in New Orleans, Louisiana Sept. 1926.
By 1935, the Standish's were living in Washington, D.C. Karl was working as secretary in the House of Representatives and Vera was working as an attorney for the Veterans Administration.
During WWII Karl served in the U.S. Air Force leaving the service with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked in the Veterans Administration after the war until he retired.
Karl and Vera bought 200 acres on Tayloes Neck road in 1947. They bought it in 1947 and lived there until they moved to Florida in 1958.

Karl Standish was baptized as an adult by Rev. Reginald B. Stevenson at Durham Church on June 3, 1951. Aunt Vee & Uncle Stan were confirmed at Durham Church on Oct. 21, 1951. Rev. Reginald B. Stevenson was rector.
Colonel Standish served on the Durham Church Vestry from April 1951—April 1955. As a Vestryman he held the offices of Sr. Warden, Registrar & Secretary. While on the Vestry, this body began the process of building a new Parish Hall and Rectory on church property.
Colonel Karl Standish and Vera Harrison Standish sold their home on Tayloe's Neck in April 1958. They moved to Venice, Florida.

Karl Miles Standish died Aug. 26, 1980 at age 90. He was interred in Durham Churchyard on October 26, 1980 with Rev. Arnold Taylor officiating.
