THOMAS JACKSON STROLE, The Newton Press, Dec 1948:
Thomas J., son of Andrew and Welthe Strole, was born near Newton, IL, Feb 18, 1870 and died at his home Dec 27, 1948 at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 9 days. He was married to Bertha Clark of Newton on Aug 16, 1892. To this union six children were born, five of whom survive.

Those surviving, in the order of their birth, are Florence, Mrs. Logan Medcalf of Granite City, IL; Fay, also of Granite City; Neil of Newton; Helen, Mrs. Clyde Garnier of Milwaukee, WI and Harold of Newton. Also adding to the joy and happiness of this home, are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Dr. Donald S. Strole (Donald Gordon Strole) of Abilene, TX; Mrs. George Bevis of Champaign, IL and Richard and Linda K. Strole of Newton. The great grandchildren are Malcolm and Sandra Strole of Abilene, TX.

A sister Martha, Mrs. J. S. Kibler of Olney, IL also survives him. Three brothers, Charlie, Hiram, and Isaac are deceased.

He loved his family very dearly, always demonstrating his love for them all by his every thought, word and deed. Their welfare and happiness were uppermost in his mind and his greatest happiness was when he could have them with him in the home. He was always appreciative of their kind and tender ministrations to him which continued faithfully until all human hands could do had been done and he was called to be with God.

He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in childhood and after his marriage transferred his membership to the Oak Hill Methodist Church, and later, upon moving to their present home, to the nearby Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. When services were discontinued there he moved his membership to Grace Methodist Church in Newton and remained a faithful member until death, attending its service when his health permitted. Just before death he reassured his family of his faith in God and steadfast hope of a home in Heaven.

He was engaged in agriculture near Newton throughout his entire life and enjoyed the confidence and fellowship of a large circle of friends and neighbors appreciating the privilege of lending a hand to a neighbor in need, as well as the help given him when he was in need. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but the memory of his life will be a constant inspiration to all of them to so live as to make life richer, fuller and more meaningful to others.

Funeral services were held at Grace Methodist Church in Newton with Rev. C. T. Cramer officiating. Burial was in a crypt at Riverside Cemetery.
