Virgil was the son of John Moore and Catherine Watson and was married to Harriett Campbell, daughter of Javan and Melissa Mills Campbell.

Virgil's death cert. contains erroneous information concerning his middle name. Dr. Ginny Moore Carney, a meticulous researcher, is positive her grandfather's middle name is Wilson, and has supporting evidence in the article from the Polk County Heritage book by another excellent researcher and grandson, Dr. Melvin Griffith (# 624 p. 268) The Murray County Heritage book also confirms this name. Dr. Griffith cites the source of his data as being from the Moore Family Bible, copies of the pages are on file at the Polk County Historical & Genealogical Society Library.

Virgil spent the first half of his life in the mountains of North Carolina and Georgia before moving into Polk County and purchasing a farm from his brother-in-law, Charles Campbell.

Children of Virgil and Harriett were Clinton, Lillian, Walter, Luther, Velma, Dovie, Pascal, Charles, Daye and Millard.
