He migrated with his parents and sibings from County Cavan Ireland (about 40 miles north of Dublin) in 1821. Siblings include, Isabelle, Robert, George, John, Wm., and Matilda, who died at sea. They traveled overland from Baltimore to Ohio. They crossed the Ohio River at Stuebenville and traveled then to the wilds of Carroll Co. Ohio, near Leesville. In 1842 he migrated again with his family and in-laws James Carlile to Scott Co. in southern Indiana.
