Johanna Mozisek Adamcik was born in Sedliste, Moravia in the Empire of Austria,(now the Czech Republic), the oldest child of of Vavrince (Lawrence)and Frances Sumbera Mozisek. She immigrated with her widowed mother, two younger sisters and one younger brother to Texas, arriving in Galveston on the Hohenzollern on October 29, 1881, along with two uncles and one aunt and their families. The family first lived in the Bluff area of Fayette County (later Hostyn, TX), where she met and married Jan Adamcik. The Adamciks later moved south of Smithville in Bastrop County, TX
