James M. Sims, 68 year old pioneer Lincoln Parish business man and resident, died at his home on North Trenton street this morning at 7:15, after a lingering illness that had kept him in bed the greater part of the last four months.

Mr. Sims, long active in the business and civic welfare of Lincoln parish, was secretary-treasurer of the Ruston Building and Loan Association, as well as chairman of the Parish Democratic Committee, and member of the State Central Committee at the time of his passing. Mr. Sims political connections date back to 1908 when he was elected clerk of court for Lincoln parish. After serving two terms in that capacity, he was elected Mayor of the City of Ruston in 1916, which position he resigned a year later to become head of the old Lincoln Parish bank, now absorbed by the First National Bank of Ruston.

In 1921, Mr. Sims left the banking business to engage in insurance, which business he carried on until his death, although in the meantime, he accepted the active secretary-treasureship of the Ruston Building and Loan Association, and the positions mentioned above, with the Democratic committee.

Mr. Sims was born in Simsboro, Lincoln parish, in October, 1868, the son of the late William [sic James Monroe] and Elizabeth Madden Sims.

He was graduated in 1890 from what is now Centenary college.

In 1889, Mr. Sims was married to Miss Blance Elizabeth Windsor, of Ohio, who, with three sons, J. M. Jr, Rankin and Robert, all of Ruston, are the immediate survivors. One brother, Rueben, of Arcadia, and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Phillips, also survive.

Mr. Sims began his business career in Simsboro, from where he moved to Dubach and in 1901 came to Ruston, where for four years he was employed by Thompson-Ritchie and company.

Funeral services will be held from the family home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, with interment in the Simsboro cemetery.

The Rev. Robert W. Vaughn, superintendent of the Louisiana Methodist Orphanage, and a life-long friend of Mr. Sims, will conduct the funeral services, assisted by the Rev. Guy Hicks, pastor of Trinity Methodist church, and the Rev. Louis Hoffpauir, presiding elder of this district.

Active pallbearers will be Byron Cann, Allen Barksdale, Clay Skinner, Floyd James, Ross Neill, and Raymond Madden.

Honorary pallbearers will be O. G. Barker, F. S. Price, Add Thompson, N. McDonald, J. D. Holland, W. A. Marbury, L. B. Breed, John Graham, T. H. Mills, T. A. Gaar, Sam Richardson, S. L. Barksdale, A.
