The 1850 census of September 26, revealed Fred was a farm laborer and a boarder with the Bacon family in Antwerp, Jefferson County, New York. Household members: Frederick Shampine (18), Morton Bacon (27), Lovina (25), Susan E. (4), Ann E. (2) and William (4/12).
Morton T., when 21 years of age, married Lovina Wooley, of Le Ray, and they have had nine children, eight of whom survive, namely:
Eliza, William, Rasselus, 2nd, Harley M., Millard, Viola, Leona, and Jessie.
Susan, the eldest, died at the age of 19 years.
