On April 5, 1917, Glen volunteered to join the Army and was assigned to Battery D, 145th Field Artillery in the 90th Division. He trained at Fort Douglas for two months and then at Camp Kearney in CA for eight months. Prior to going abroad, he took a ten day furlough and was married to Virginia Mansfield on January 12, 1918 in Salt Lake City. Their first son would be born in September. On June 27, 1918, he was sent overseas to France and Germany. He trained at Camp Hurst in France for four months and then was with the A.E.F. in Germany for six months. At some point, he was transferred to the 344th Field Artillery Band. There is a note that Glen was not in action but played clarinet in the Army band. The band played in hospitals and rest camps all over France. Glen was promoted from Private to 3rd Class Musician on November 1, 1918 and then to 2nd Class Musician on January 6, 1919. He was officially discharged from the Army on June 28, 1919. Glen's records actually contain two questionnaires: one filled out by his father while he was still abroad and a second, more complete one, that is unsigned.
Some further research tells us that Albert returned to Utah after the war. The 1920 census places him back in Heber living with his wife and child and working as a printer in a printing office. Around that time, he started law school at the University of Utah and graduated in June of 1924. In 1927, Glen's second son was born. According to the 1930 census, the family was living in Salt Lake City with Virginia's parents and Glen was working as a lawyer. In the 1940 census, the family was back in Heber and Glen was working as an attorney for Wasatch County. In the late 1940s, Glen was named assistant director of the Utah State Board for Education on Alcoholism. After over 50 years as an attorney, Glen died on June 9, 1976, the day before his 79th birthday. He is buried at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Millcreek.
