John R. Courtney, son of John B. Courtney and Agnes Bolton Richey, born 1826 Clark Co., Indiana, arrived in Oregon 1 Dec 1845. He married Caroline (Buell) Findley, a pioneer of 1847, on March 25, 1849 in Linn Co., OR. John secured DLC # 2631 on 22 Feb 1853 in Linn Co. He was active in the Presbyterian church. He was appointed Umatilla county commissioner and served until after the first election in 1864.
