Dr. Hill was founder of the first hospital in Murphy, the Murphy Hospital. He was a member of the Cherokee County Medical Society, the N.C. Medical Society, and a fellow of the American Medical Association.

Also, he was a local surgeon for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and the Smoky Mountain Trailways.
