ARTHUR R. BOWMAN, 97, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2010. Born Dec. 7, 1912, he was the son of Willard C. and Nannette Bowman. He attended Hoagland Grade School and was a graduate of South Side High School and Iowa University where he studied architecture. He was a one year member of Pershing Rifle and ROTC. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Iowa University and Alpha Omega Phi Fraternity. He was a graduate of American Academy of Art in Chicago, Ill. He worked for Wright Patterson Air Force Base during World War II as a Senior Illustrator in the Foreign Evaluation Branch of the Engineering Division Tech Lab. He then worked for NCR in Dayton, Ohio. In 1952, he brought his family back to Fort Wayne. At one time he owned the largest advertising studio in Fort Wayne. After closing that studio, he owned his own advertising studio, retiring in 1991. He was a life member of Elks Lodge, Men's Flower Club, The South Side Has Beens, Highland Lodge 762 F&AM, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, photography, raising roses and tuberous begonias, and working in his garden. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Surviving are his daughters, Betsy A. (Roger) Swisher, Nancy L. (Jim) Stirn, both of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Allan (Alyce) Swisher, Elisabeth (Corey) Moldes, Jason (Colleen) Swisher, Katie (Matt) Freeman; and five great-grandchildren, Quinten, Lillian and Emmerson Freeman, Aiden Moldes, and Hanna Margaret "Maggie" Swisher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret V. Miller, in 1993. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
