Ida Mae was the daughter of Gaston Shelton McKenzie and Margaret Jane Boone McKenzie.

Ida Mae married Walter Chevis Young before 1933, since they had one child, Walter Cheves Young Jr, born in 1933. They divorced in 1941 in Citrus, Florida.

She married Robert Lee Atwell, 3 June 1955 in Alexandria, Virginia.

'Ikey'

Ida, age 93, journeyed peacefully to her next life on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. Born August 2, 1911 in Lumberton, NC, she was a daughter of the late Gaston Shelton and Margaret Jane Boone McKenzie. Ida retired in 1968 from working in the District of Columbia as a Civil Service Employee of the federal government. She moved with her husband, Bob, to Cummings, GA and lived there until his death in 1972. She then returned to Charlotte and was active in the community. Ida shared with others as a Meals on Wheels and Shepherd's Center volunteer. She was an active member of Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church for many years.

Ida was a happy, vibrant and generous woman who loved life, traveling and her family. She enjoyed telling and hearing a good story, taking a trip for the adventure of it, and spending quality time with family and friends. She loved many and was loved by all.

Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Constance Young; three sisters, Josephine Lenora Harkey, Margaret Wilson Brockmann and Alice Louise McKenzie; four grandchildren, Melody Marie McKenzie, Ida Elizabeth Breen, Laura Lee Young and Walter C. Young, III; a step grandson, Michael Reed; five great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and countless nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews who will cherish their memories and time spent with her. Ida was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert 'Bob' Lee Atwell, to whom she was married for seventeen years; her only son, the other love of her life, Walter Chevis Young, Jr.; and three siblings, Flora Belle McKenzie, David Alexander Boone McKenzie and Gaston Shelton McKenzie.
