Obituary:

John W. Cox, 86 died Oct 24, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City.
He was born Dec 5, 1904 at Dodge City (correction - on farm near Galesburg, KS), the son of Charles E. and Ida Ellen Poorbaugh Cox. A lifetime Dodge City resident, he was a commissioned soldier for the Salvation Army Corps for over 30 years and served as an usher at the Salvation Army Citadel, both at Dodge City, where he served as the commissioned Welcome Sergeant. He was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel, Dodge City.

Survivors include: six nephews.

Funeral service will be at 2 pm Monday at the Salvation Army Citadel, Dodge City with Major Claude Reeder presiding. Friends may call from noon to 6 pm Sunday and 9 am to noon Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial will be in the Maple Crove Cemetery, Dodge City.

Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army or to the Kansas Heritage Center, both in care of the funeral home.

NOTE: As a child, I remember that John spent most holidays in our home in Hutchinson, KS. My mother was his Aunt Estella.
