Lory Bowers, 84, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. on Thurs-day, July 29, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Zuehls officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
Lory is survived by her two sons, Larry (Jan) Bowers and Skeet (Judy) Bowers; and three grandchildren, Scott, Sue, and Tammy, all of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents and her sister Gladys Rohrer.
Lorraine M. Behimer, the daughter of Al and Frances (Lemberg) Behimer, was born April 30, 1926, in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1944. On January 22, 1946, Lory was united in marriage to Marvin Bowers in Fort Dodge. The couple lived in Fort Dodge and Lory worked at The Messenger for a period of time as a writer, and then at the public library where she was the bookkeeper, retiring after 30 years. She also operated a laminating service out of her home. Her husband Marvin preceded her in death in 2007.
Lory was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was active with PTA, Cub Scouts, where she served as a den mother, and DeMolay where she received the "Mother of the Year" award in 1972. Lory was a founder of the Sunriser's Bowling League and served as league president for 50 years. She was an avid bowler and received the award for "Women's Bowler of the Year" among many others. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was very active in any organization in which she served.
Lory was a lifelong Cubs fan. She treasured spending weekends and vacation time with her family at the family cabin on Big Spirit Lake, and hosting many of the family Sunday suppers and holidays. Her most requested items were Grandma's potatoes and lasagna.
