AGE: 96 PISCATAWAY (NJ)

Walter J. Brown, 96, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Amherst, NH.

Born June 3, 1914, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of George D. and Matilda Lefevre Brown. He resided in Bayonne, NJ, and Albany, NY, before moving to Piscataway in 1958.

Mr. Brown was a US Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He remained in the Air Force Reserve, retiring in 1974 as a Major, after more than 30 years of service to his country.

He had worked as an accountant for Western Union, New York, NY, for over 30 years, also retiring in 1974. Mr. Brown was a member of the Rivercrest Civic Association, Piscataway, years ago. He was an avid philatelist, numismatist, and genealogist. Because of his military service, he took responsibility for the daily raising of the US flag at his local park.

Mr. Brown was pre-deceased by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Vanderpool Brown, who died August 7, 1999.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis A. (Donald) Lockwood of Amherst, NH, his grandsons, Mark (Miki) Lockwood and Timothy Lockwood, both of Amherst, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 30, at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook. Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, NY. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral service at 4:00 P.M.
