Eleanor Belle Bender Thompson, 90, Janesville, died early Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home. She was born in Pine Grove, WI, on July 17, 1920, the daughter of Clarence and Edith (Schenck) Bender. She was the last surviving sibling of 12 children. Eleanor married Stanley A. Thompson in Wautoma on Aug. 30, 1941, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 2009. She graduated from Waushara County Normal School and taught in a one-room schoolhouse prior to her marriage. She devoted her time to her husband and raising her four children. Eleanor loved to knit, quilting with her church friends, and baking and cooking for family and friends, especially her famous cinnamon rolls and doughnuts. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Janesville, and was active in various church activities throughout her life.

Eleanor is survived by her four children: Jerry Thompson of Janesville, Ivan (Jody) Thompson of Oconomowoc, Donna Thompson of Janesville, and Dale (Sonia) Thompson of Milton; 11 grandchildren: Kelly (Phil) Drees, James Thompson, Mark Thompson, Nathan (Jolene) Thompson, Rachel (Matt) Schlatter, Rebecca Thompson, Luke Thompson, Krista (Chris) Olsen, Matthew Thompson, Kirstin (Brian) Dorn, and Kelsey Krueger; six great-grandchildren: Karly, Kylie, Ryan, Aurora, Cyrah, and Whitney; sister-in-law, Rosalie Dahlen of Wautoma; and many nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Funeral service held July 30, 2010, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. A graveside service at HOPE LUTHERAN CEMETERY, Wautoma, WI.
