Ruth Elizabeth Schmidt, 98, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Spring View Manor Rest Home in Conway Springs.

She was born Feb. 12, 1912, on her aunt and uncle's farm 30 miles south of Syracuse, to Howard and Lillie Davis.

On April 24, 1936, she married Clifford Schmidt at her parents' home 30 miles southwest of Syracuse. She lived on their farm six miles southwest of Syracuse and had been a teacher, spending four years in rural schools and 23 years at Kendall.

Her husband died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Delmont, Ralph and Homer Davis; two sisters, Margaret Harper and Helen Patton; and a grandson.

Survivors include two sisters, Claudene Schmidt of Syracuse, and Edna Belle Cook of Ulysses; a brother, Clarence Davis of Bayfield, Colo.; three daughters, Donna Kater of Wichita, B. Ann Morris of Oakland, Ark., and Joyce Daerr of Viola; a son, Russ Schmidt of Highland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at the United Methodist Church, Syracuse, followed by burial at Syracuse Cemetery.
