OBITUARY - Delbert L. Turner Sr., 90, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at the Cedars health Center in Tupelo. A lifelong resident of Itawamba County, he was the son of the late Elbert Lee and Minnie Flanigan Turner. He was a farmer for more than 60 years and the custodian at Mantachie Schools for 27 years. He was a charter member of the Mantachie Church of Christ, where he was the treasurer for many years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie with ministers Paul Swindle, Delbert L. Turner Jr., Greg Swindle, George Barrera and Bob O'Rear officiating. Burial will be in Center Star Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Eunie Cox Turner of Mantachie; one son Delbert L. Turner Jr., and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mantachie; two daughters, Blanche Chamblee and her husband, Marvin of Hatley, and Sarah Swindle and her husband, Paul, of union; one brother, Preston Turner of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Cheryl Harsin, Christi Reeves, Susan Dismuke, Juli Hughes, Dinny McKay, Dennis McKay, Daren Chamblee, Greg Swindle, Renee Barrera, Tara Darwin and Jeremy Swindle; 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard Turner, Cariel Turner, Clyde Turner,Bonnie Turner, and Benny Turner; two sisters, Nellie Earnest and Lois Edwards; and one grandson, Timothy Swindle.
Pallbearers will be Curry Harsin, Randy Reeves, Charles Dismuke, Shannon Hughes, Stephen Darwin, Marvin Chamblee, Donny McKay, Dennis McKay, Daren Chamblee and Jeremy Swindle.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of the Mantachie Church of Christ and Lester Magers.
