SWEET SPRINGS — Arthur J. "Colonel" Fiene, 66, Alma, Mo., died June 3, 1989, at a hospital in Sweet Springs. He was a lifelong Alma resident. Mr. Fiene owned the Alma Building Supply Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He also was the mayor of Alma for nine years. He was a member of the Alma Lions Club, a life member of the Amateur Trap-shooting Association and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member and trustee of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alma, and was a member of its Voters Assembly and Cemetery Committee. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Tieman-Blackburn post of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Frances Fiene of the home; a son, John Fiene, St. Joseph; a daughter, Kay Fiene of the home; a sister, Frances Leist, Waverly, Mo.; and two brothers, George Fiene, Kansas City, Kan., and Chester Fiene, Concordia, Mo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church; burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call alter 7 p.m. today at the Steffens-Wiegers Chapel, Alma. The family suggests contributions to the church building fund or to the Sweet Springs Community Hospital.
