He was born July 20, 1831 at Youngstown, NY and on Jan 27, 1858, married Mary King. The greater part of their married life was passed on the farm a short distance northeast of Garden Prairie. They retired twenty years ago and went to Belvidere, where they resided for a number of years.
The surviving members of the family are two sons and two daughters: Calvin Swain of Chicago, George Swain of Harvard, Mrs. Belle Carpenter of Elgin, and Mrs. Lila Swain of San Diego, CA. Also surviving him are two brothers and one sister, Lott Swain of Marengo, Willard Swain of Garden Prairie, and Zoe Swain.
the body of Mr. Swain was brought to Marengo and on Thursday afternoon, Nov 14, funeral services were held at the home of his brother, Lott Swain. The interment was in the Garden Prairie cemetery.
