She was born on September 27, 1920 in Chambers County, Alabama to John Ellis and Cassie Lee (Tomlin) Crowder. After World War Two ended, Mrs. Awbrey and her husband, Alfred L. Awbrey, moved from LaFayette, AL to Gainesville in 1945. Mrs. Awbrey was a beautician in the Gainesville area for over 40 years. She was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church and participated in mission trips for over 20 years. She also belonged to the Alachua General Hospital Volunteers and had over 4,000 hours of service. She was also a member of the Gainesville Garden Club, Gainesville Women's Club, First Methodist Women's Missionary Group and the Red Hat Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all three of her siblings, Gordon Crowder, Lillie Brown, Evelyn Turner and her husband, Alfred L. Awbrey.
She is survived by her two sons, Alfred L. Awbrey, Jr., and Larry E. Awbrey and her daughter-in-law, Linda B. Awbrey and two grandchildren, Ashley and Alexandra Awbrey.
A visitation will be held at Forest Meadows F.H. on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 5-7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Parkview Baptist Church 3403 NW 13th Street, on January 25, 2011 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Greg Magruder officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central, 4100 NW 39th Avenue.
