A book on families of Collin Co., TX, with a section on the family of Sam McKinney includes the following: "Birdie, born June 15, 1880, married Arthur Beard. It was their daughter Imogene, who, as an honor graduate of the special wireless school at Valparaiso, Indiana, was selected to be the operator to receive the message from Europe to Washington, D.C., saying that the armistice ending the fighting of World War I had been signed, a great honor for her. She now lives at her home in California after a long career in wireless."
