OBITUARY:
Sarah Frances Phipps, 88, of Waldron died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Major Hospital. Born April 3, 1922, in Johnson County, she was the daughter of Roy and Lelia (Umbarger) Browning. She married Carl Phipps on April 8, 1939, and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Regina (husband, Kenneth) Jacobs of Shelbyville; brothers, Lester Browning and Warren "Brownie" Browning, both of Shelbyville; sister, Ethel May Hilt of Shelbyville; granddaughter, Tracey (husband, Keith) Klawinski of Mishawaka; and great-grandchildren, Logan Klawinski and Delaney Klawinski, both of Mishawaka. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Louis Browning.
Mrs. Phipps had been employed at G.C. Murphy Co. in Shelbyville from 1943 to 1946 and with Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. in Indianapolis for approximately nine years. She was a member of Geneva United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the women's group, and Rebekah Lodge No. 355.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Dodd officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Geneva United Methodist Church, 3107 E. Vandalia Road, Flat Rock, IN 47234. (The Shelbyville News, Saturday, July 17, 2010)
