Funeral services for Mrs Emma Fairbanks, 77, long time resident of the Maruine community, who passed away last Friday after a lingering illness, were conducted at Methodist Church, Faith, South Dakota at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
Rev. McElwee of Bison conducted the services and burial was in the Faith cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Hampton, Olie Stomprud, Nels Afdahl, C. J. McTighe, Ray Haines, and John Herman, all of Maurine.
Special music included the songs, No Night There, Beautiful River, and Safe in the Arms of Jesus, by Mrs. McTighe and Ann Smith of Faith.
Mrs. Fairbanks passed away last Friday at the home of Mrs. D. Mitchell Jennings at Newell after having been quite ill for several weeks.
Mrs Emma Fairbanks was born in Illinois April 5, 1872. She was married to the late Walter Fairbanks Feb. 28, 1897, and to this union were born four daughters and four sons, all of whom are living except on daughter Dorothy, who died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Fairbanks had made their home near Maurine since 1908, when they moved from Geddes, S. D., and homesteaded there. Mr. Fairbanks passed away May 28, 1943 at Faith.
"Grandma", as everyone called her, was kind and loving wife and mother, beloved by all who knew her. She and Mr. Fairbanks were good "old fashioned neighbors", and were always on hand to lend aid and comfort to neighbors ill or in sorrow. She joined the Presbyterian church when a young girl and had lived a consistent Christian life.
Surviving are her seven children, Dewey of Strasburg, MO; Mrs. Helen Thingelstad, Maurine; Mrs. Alice Munroe, Stoneville; Harry, Durpree, Laurence, Faith; Vernon, Maurine; and Mrs. Gladys Cossairt, Pondosa, California; also twenty-one granchildren and one great grandchild.
