Marjorie Gladys Fox, 89, long-time resident of Port Dickinson, passed away September 23, 2004, at the Willow Point Nursing Home, where she had been lovingly cared for by N2 Staff during the recent two and a half years of illness. She was born December 17, 1914, in the Village of Shavertown, New York. Marjorie was predeceased by her parents, Grover Leonard Stone and Nellie J. Stone; brothers, Thomas Stone and Grover Edward Stone; sister-in-law, Myrtle Stone; close cousin, Lucy Jones; and former husband of 43 years, Brainard Alton Fox. She is survived by their five children, 16 adoring grandchildren; brother, Francis M. Stone, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Stone, Binghamton; sister, Jeanne Ruffo and brother-in-law, Thomas Ruffo of Chenango Bridge. Her education was the one-room Sanitaria Springs School. She learned to successfully live in the depression years and then to support two brothers as they were called to the European Theater and South Pacific during WWII. It can be truly said that her energies were: in the caring of children her own and others; each year should would "can" a year's supply of fruits, vegetables, jellies; her written correspondence of filled-to-the edges postcards, and in letters that were happily received by all she needed to keep in touch with; and she was most happy being in the company of each and every family member, which included going to graduations, sporting events, especially basketball, and remembering each one with cards and gifts on their birthdays; she lived her Port Dickinson neighborhood and being close to the school where she could stop over and watch various events put on by the children.
A Funeral Service will be offered at Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ogden-Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1609 Chenango St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901, with Pastor Horace Brown King officiating. Burial will follow the service at Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church.
