Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, March 31, at the Roley Christian Church in Adair County for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Beard, 66, wife of Grover Beard of Casey Creek, Ky., who died Tuesday night, March 29, 1960, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Cleopas Malone of Louisville, after being in declining health for the past year. She was a native of Adair County, the daughter of the late Daniel Crittenden and Mrs. Mariah Womack Collins, and a member of the Roley Christian Church, which she had served faithfully for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She also had taught in the Casey County schools for several years. She married Grover Beard on April 27, 1916, who survives. Besides her husband and daughter, she is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. George Wolford, Liberty; one son, David P. Beard, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, W. E. Collins, Louisville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rev. Tom Bledsoe conducted the services and burial was in the Roley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Walker, Marshall and Edward Tucker, Lindsay Seaborne, Aldus Brockman and Ewing Knifley. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, April 7, 1960
