William Edward Curley, known as "Willy" to the family, was born in Baltimore, MD to John Edward Curley and Emily Virgina Neepier Curley. He was their fourth child (of five) and only son. He moved to St. Mary's county in adulthood. He apparently never returned to Baltimore, but every Christmas, sent a bushel basket of oranges and grapefruit to his parents and sisters there. He was a farmer. When he registered for the draft for W.W.I, he was described as having grey eyes and red hair. He married Mabel Louise Raleigh and they had five children: Virginia, E. Raleigh, James L., John S., and William E.
