Lawson, the son of Benjamin Franklin "Frank" and Nancy Watson (Herrod) Auxer (alternate spelling Auxier) and his first wife, Mary Williams, had one daughter, Eva Gertrude who died in 1895.

Lawson and his second wife, Anna Meyers, had four sons: James Cloyd, George Ralph, Benjamin Franklin, and Lawson Vern.
