Daughter of Martha (Johnson) Engvall and L. Gustave Engvall.

Born in Hjerpen, Jamtlands, Sweden.

Given name in Sweden was Signe.

She sailed to America at the age of 6 aboard The Teutonic, under British Flag, out of Liverpool, England and arrived at Ellis Island New York on 15 Dec 1893 with her mother Martha Johnson Engvall and brothers Oskar (John) age 4 and George, an infant.

Her father L. Gustave Engvall
had arrived 7 months earlier on
20 May 1893 aboard The Peruvian,
under British Flag, out of
Glasgow, Scotland.

Aunt Sarah had eight sibilings:

John (1889 - 1955)
George (1892 - 1903)
Victor (1895 - 1971)
Lillian (1896 - 1982)
Edna (1899 - 1936)
Helen (1904 - 1979)
Leslie (1906 - 1990)
Ona (1912 - 1960)

Wife of E.M. Johnson
of White Plains, N.Y.

No records found for E. M. Johnson who died probably in the mid to late 1930's in White Plains, NY. It is known that he had large personal and financial ties to the Chase Bank of New York and the building of the Panama Canal.

Sarah had no children.

Sarah was related to the Edgerton family in Stratford, Connecticut and Florida because her sister Lillian, my mother, married Bryant, Sr., my father.

Sarah moved from White Plains, New York to Santa Barbara, California in 1948 so she could enjoy the warm weather and the view of the Pacific Ocean.

She now rests only a few hundred feet from her beloved Pacific Ocean thanks to her loving brother Victor and her loving brother-in-law Roy who cared for her in the sunset of her life.

I visited with Aunt Sarah
in October 1948.

Marjorie and I visited
her grave in August 1991.

Aunt Sarah was 64 yeard old.

Rest Forever In Heavenly Peace Dear Precious Aunt Sarah.
