Kingstree Private Killed in Action
Kingstree, Jan 15 - A message from the war department today notified Mrs. Ethel Lena Pearce Brown that her husband, Private Dessie Brown, had been killed in action on the European battlefront, Dec 25. Private Brown was a son of Walter B. Brown and the late Mrs. Rosa Burrows Brown, of Cedar swamp community. Before entering active service he was engaged in farming. Surviving besides his widow are his father; and seven sisters and brothers, Mrs. C. E. Gordon, Mrs. A. L. Epps, Gilbert Brown, Laddie brown and Ruie Brown, of Kingstree; Miss Laura Brown, of Sumter, and Burrie Brown, of Andrews. Private Brown had been in service nearly three years and had been overseas since fall.
