Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Paducah with the Rev. Todd Brady officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Cemetery.
Ms. Wise was the owner and operator of Wise Furniture and West Kentucky Mattress Manufacture Company for 43 years. She graduated from Augusta Tilghman High School in 1934 and later attended Paducah Junior College. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a leader for B.Y.P.U. as well as being very active in mission work and singing in the choir for 50 years. She was the first President of the Auxiliary of the V.F.W from 1936 to 1947. She was a member of the Western Baptist Hospital Auxiliary. In 1946, she was the first campaign treasurer, enlisting funds for construction of Western Baptist Hospital. In 1974, she was written about in "Who's Who of the South" for Women's role in business. Ms. Wise and her children traveled to 7 continents and toured many countries over the years.
Surviving are one daughter and two sons: Jeannie Wise Barker and husband William Barker of Paducah, Ky., Samuel Wise and wife Ellen of Paducah, Ky., and Louis Wise and wife Chris of Oak Hill, Va.; one brother, David E. Locke and wife Jean of Columbia, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lindsey and Pearl (Miller) Locke; one sister, Clara Locke Howell; and two brothers, Paul G. Locke and Louis L. Locke.
