William Horace Barnes, 72, father of Commander Roscoe Barnes of the VFW post, died at his home in Riverside community Monday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock, following an illness of four years.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church of Christ at Jefferson, DeKalb county, with Rayton Cope and Felix Cantrell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A native of Dekalb county, Mr. Barnes was born February 8, 1881. He was a son of the late Arch Barnes and Martha Cantrell Barnes and he had resided in Warren county for some eight years. Engaged in farming and the nursery business, Mr. Barnes was a member of the Baptist Church of Christ in Jefferson.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Girtha Barnes, McMinnville; four sons, Roscoe, Cordell and Billy Jack Barnes, McMinnville, and Charles Barnes, Viola; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Rigsby, Smithville; Mrs. Cleo Cantrell, McMinnville, Mrs. Bobby Warren and Mrs. Lucille Allen, Chattanooga. Also six grandchildren.
