Martin Boughner was the son of Jacob and Mociah (Hull) Boughner. When a young man, he work for relatives in Hunderton County, New Jersey and met and married his wife, Catherine Swallow on Jan 10, 1824. They moved to Cayuga County, New York in the spring of 1825. And Waterloo in 1827, In 1835 came to Ash Twp. , Monroe County, then settled in West Bloomfield, Oakland county, in 1837. He was a fancy weaver by trade, but after coming to Michigan, he became a farmer. He was a democrat, and attended the Baptist Church. He and Catherine had 4 children, Charles Bartolette Boughner 1825-1920, Jacob Swallow Boughner 1829-1935, Mary Ann (Mrs. John G. Durkee) 1833-1863. and John Adelbert Boughner 1843-1917.
