The only son of 4 children born to Charles Otto "Carl" Zigrang and Rose Maude Batchelder, Charles was baptized as a baby by the pastor of the Methodist church in Batchtown, Calhoun County, Illinois. He was educated in Batchtown before graduating from Alton High School in June of 1940.

Charles continued his education by enrolling at Hardin High School in September of 1940. He began taking post high school classes there, but had to quit after 2 months due to health problems.

In November of 1940, he was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital for treatment of a lung infection. He then entered Mount St. Rose Sanatorium in St. Louis.

As his health continued to deteriorate, Charles spent many hours in bed at Mount St. Rose, drawing sketches of the scenes around him. He was considered to be a talented artist.

He was eventually moved to St. Anthony's Infirmary in Alton so that he could be closer to his family and friends. By 03 Mar 1941, his condition was listed as critical.

At the time of his death at St. Anthony's Infirmary, Charles was 18 years, 7 months and 26 days old.

He was survived by his mother and father; 3 sisters, Theresa Brown of Alton, Lois Strode of Alton, and Bernice McKinney of Streator, Illinois; 3 nephews; 2 special aunts, Elizabeth Show of Alton, and Albina Burns of Batchtown; and many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Batchtown, Illinois at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 12 Mar 1941.

Charles Warren Zigrang, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zigrang, passed away at St. Anthony's Infirmary, Alton, March 9, 1941 after several months illness.

Although death was expected at any time the past two weeks, yet, when the news that the Death Messenger had called, it was a shock to loved ones and many friends who had watched and who were interested in Charles' condition during the entire period of his illness.

Charles Warren Zigrang was born at Batchtown, Illinois, July 13, 1922, having attained the age of 18 years, 7 months and 26 days.

While still a small babe he was baptized by Rev. F. M. Hedger, pastor of the Methodist church in 1922. Later in the year 1936, Charles became a member of the Methodist church.
