Joined the Marines 12 Nov 1938. Stationed in Hawaii during 1940 and was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment in Shanghai, China on 14 Nov, 1940, then relocated with his unit, to Manila shortly before the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. Reported as a POW 7 May 1942. Sailed to Pusan, Korea aboard the Japanese prison ship Tottori Maru and arrived at Camp Hoten, Mukden, Manchuria (present day Shengyang, China). Worked as a slave laborer until he died of beri-beri. Serial # 268911
