Bio: John Patterson was the 3rd son of William and Doras (Spear) Patterson and
married on May 1806 in Warrenton, VA Mary Buchanan Nicholas, daughter of Wilson
Cary Nicholas, governor of Virginia. John bought "Atamasco" that was near St.
Thomas' Episcopal Church in 1822. He served as a vestryman of the church from
1823 to 1829 and again in 1832; from 1824 to 1827 he was a warden.
