Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in Cheramie Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Melva E. Cheramie; son, Gary "Coon" Cheramie and companion, Ethel Eschete; brother, Irvin "White" Cheramie; grandchildren, Celeste Cheramie, and Matthew Cheramie and wife, Renee; great-grandson, Alex Cheramie; and dogs, Bandit, Saki, Honey Bun and Baby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hick Sr. and Cherifa Gisclair Cheramie; brothers, Hick Jr., Victor, Mack, Odeno, and Kirby Cheramie; sister, Earline C. Borne; and an infant daughter.
He loved hunting, trapping, fishing, dancing, joke-telling, and smoking fine cigars. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Cut Off is in charge of arrangements.
