Frank Payea, Longtime City Painter, Dies
Frank J Payea, 74, of 108 North Avenue, died Friday morning at a local nursing homeafter a long illness. He was a self-employed painter and paper hanger for 60 years until his retirement in 1972. He was born on January 5, 1900 in Burlington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Payea. He was educated in the Burlington school system. He married Loretta Hammond in 1917. She died in 1968.
He leaves four sons, Robert of New York City, Raymond and Richard of Burlington, and Joseph of Colchester; nine daughters, the Misses Hazel and Veronica Payea of Waterbury, Mrs. Leonard (Lorraine) Lampman of Swanton, Mrs. Sandy (Margaret) Sandberg of Las Cruses, New Mexico, Mrs. Nelson (Mary) Hemingway, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Bessette, Mrs. Roger (Bonnie) Christopher, Mrs. Norman (Dawn) LaRock, and Mrs. Albert (Donna) LaRock, all of Burlington; a brother, Harry Payea, of Essex Junction; 68 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St Joseph's Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Elmwood Memorial Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Avenue, will be today and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. James a Meunier, Elmwood Memorial, is in charge of arrangements.
