MADISON, NC ~ James Thomas "Tom" Hand, Sr., of Ellisboro Road, died Friday, August 4, 2006, at Morehead Hospital. He had just celebrated his 94th birthday on August 3, 2006.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Hand was preceded in death by his parents, Galloway and Martha Landreth Hand; son, Robert "Rooster" Hand; daughter, Janice Ore; grandson, Kevin Ore; brothers, Chester, Delton, and Paul "Shorty" Hand; sisters, Maude Sisk, Pauline Lawson and Maggie Hand.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Hazel Sheets Hand; daughters, Ann Gauldin of Stokesdale, Margaret Kallam of Mayodan, Maye Stutts of Lakeland, Florida; sons, Richard Wayne of Ridgeway, Va., and James Thomas, Jr. of Madison; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ann Gauldin, 8545 Belews Creek Road, Stokesdale, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Huntsville Ruritan Club, c/o Herbert Purgason, 1458 Ellisboro Road, Madison, NC 27025 Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
